Commonly Asked Questions about Pilates:

What is a Pilates?

Pilates is a mind/body exercise designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body.  The low impact exercises focus on developing the core postural muscles which help balance the body and support the spine.  The exercises also focus on awareness of body and breath.

How does this work?

Pilates combines breath work with stretches and exercises that challenges the strength, balance and flexilibilty of the body.  Muscles are strengthened and stretched to work in the way they were intended to do to provide support, stability and balance to the body.

Regular practice of Pilates strengthens the body, increases flexibility and mobility, improves balance, alignment and coordination, and promotes a positive awareness of the body.

Is it safe? How is it effective?

Pilates exercises are low impact and can be modified for people of all fitness levels.

What to expect?

During your hour long class your instructor will lead you through a series of exercises performed from a mat on the floor.  Many of the exercises are performed from a laying or seated position.

Is it covered by insurance?

Exercise programs may be covered by your corporate or insurer’s wellness program. Please see your plan or policy for activities eligible for reimbursement.
