Tai Chi (TIE-Chee) is an ancient Chinese martial art form based on gentle, floating, connected movements in a remembered pattern that has been passed down for centuries. It provides experience to the body and nervous system so movements become smoothly integrated and flow one into the other. At Groton Wellness’ Tai Chi classes - you will experience gliding and moving in slow, graceful dance-like poses that improve stress reduction, balance and agility. Tai Chi connects body and mind.

Typically, class meets twice per week for one hour at the spa educational room, or, outside in good weather. Wear loose clothing, soft athletic shoes or go barefoot, and bring drinking water in safe containers. On days outside, please bring a simple sun hat allowing movement, and sunscreen, if you wish.
Tai Chi is the safest, most gentle and comfortable of the various martial arts from Asia and can be profoundly beneficial. Still, be careful not to strain, especially if you are recovering from injury or surgery. Please talk with your medical team before starting any new exercise program.
The class leader will ask you to line up by choosing the place you would like to stand. Make sure you have enough room to reach your arms out straight and to move around freely. You will then be lead in a program of movements that flow one into another with short breaks from time to time. You will be able to sip water occasionally between ‘sets’ of movement, but try to complete each set entirely. You will find the exercise very energizing.
Exercise programs may be covered by your corporate fitness program or insurer’s wellness program. Please check with your company or review your policy for fitness/wellness benefits. Please contact us for more information.
