Non-Surgical Periodontics

Non-Invasive periodontics—it's what we practice.

Remedying your gums, without the knife.

We're happy to report that surgery is no longer the only way to deal with gum disease. The conventional treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis has been changing rapidly in recent years. With early detection and early treatment, surgery can be avoided in almost all cases.

Our gum treatment can slow or stop the progression of this common realm of disease. We have different levels of treatment that are individually tailored to the different stages of gum disease you may be experiencing – from early gingivitis to advanced periodontitis. One or more of the following procedures may be used to treat the problem, relieve you of your pain or sensitivity and put you back on the road to oral health:

  •
  • Prophylaxis (Cleaning)
  • Rinses/Oral Medications
  • Scaling and Root Planing
  • Referral to a Periodontist (in very severe cases)
  •

Rinses or Oral Medications—not all are created equal

We routinely recommend herbal mouth rinses and/or oral medications depending upon the severity of the gum disease. Upon cleaning and check-up, we may also prescribe additional home care therapies.

Scaling and Root Planing: cleaning that gets to the heart of the matter

Scaling and Root Planing is a non-surgical “deep cleaning” treatment that has tremendous benefits in the early stages of gum disease. Special instruments remove bacteria and infection from around the teeth below the gum line and prove to be highly effective in retarding or reversing the decline in gum health. Here's how it works:

Trica
  1.
  2. The tooth is first “scaled”, which is a thorough removal of plaque and tarter accumulation.
  3. Then the root surface is “planed” or smoothed. This eliminates rough areas on the root that can easily trap plaque and bacteria. Gum tissue can more firmly attach to roots that are clean and smooth, thereby preventing tooth loss, harmful bacteria accumulation and sensitivity.
