About Psychotherapy or Mind Body Medicine

Mind-Body Medicine focuses on the interactions between the brain, body, mind and behavior, and the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social, spiritual and behavioral factors can directly affect health. (Definition by the NIH)

The techniques that Jane uses are designed to enhance the mind’s ability to affect bodily functions and symptoms. Jane integrates psychotherapeutic techniques with hypnosis, biofeedback, and relaxation training to promote wellness and help clients address the psychological and stress components of your physical condition.

Jane’s approach enhances each person’s capacity for self-knowledge and self-care. It helps to increase control and develop behaviors that enable one to live a healthier life. With proven mind-body techniques, a person can gain the skills and the strength to improve their physical and mental health.

Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is used to treat physical and psychological problems. Hypnosis is a highly relaxed state in which the patient’s conscious and subconscious mind is focused and receptive to therapeutic suggestion. It is not exertion of one person’s will over another. It is a safe procedure and the relaxation experienced is pleasant and refreshing. The American Medical Association approved the use of hypnosis as a therapeutic technique in 1958.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is the technology of self –knowledge and self-regulation. It is a technique that uses equipment to reveal or “feed back” internal physiology in the form of visual images on a computer screen to help with regulating these internal events.  Sensors are placed on the hands or body to read signs of tension and unbalance. Clients see the signals on the screen, become aware of their responses and learn to regulate their physiology to reduce stress and pain. It is a safe procedure during which one learns the skills to relax and feel in control.

Relaxation Training for Stress Management

Relaxation for Stress Management includes helpful tools for coping with stress and promoting long-term health by regulating the body's reactions and quieting the mind. Techniques include meditation, acupuncture, yoga, breathing exercises, hypnosis and others. When used regularly, these practices can lead to a healthier response to stress.
