Massage induces muscular relaxation, is stimulating to the circulation and inspires pleasure. The “relaxation response” occurs with the soothing and/or stimulating effect of massage.
Massage Therapy is very safe and very effective. There is no doubt it is a terrific way to reduce stress, improve muscle and joint function, and to provide a relaxation response for release of body-held tension.
Your therapist will have a room ready with the table set up, clean linens, a warm blanket, soft music, and may have organic oil fragrances or a candle. Depending on the method, you will be asked to take off some clothes, as you wish, get under the sheet/blanket, and to relax on your stomach. You may have a pillow under knees and head/chest to make yourself comfortable. The therapist will give you a treatment usually starting with your upper body. Toward the end of the time you have chosen (30-90 minutes), after having turned over about half-way through, the therapist may focus on to your head, or finish with your feet. Feel free to go to sleep or enter your deepest relaxation. Please communicate your sore spots and requests, then let go, relax, and experience the professional treatment.
Massage therapy may be covered by your insurer or corporate wellness program. Reimbursement varies in cost depending upon your program and insurer. Please contact us for more information.
A knot is a constantly contracted muscle where the tissue stays in a contracted state and doesn’t release. Pressure is used in the area to break up the tissue to the point of fatigue and it will eventually release the affected muscle tissue.
Trigger points or trigger sites are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. Palpable nodules are small contraction knots [ambiguous] and a common cause of pain. Compression of a trigger point may elicit local tenderness, referred pain, or local twitch response.
