#GivingTuesday helps The Free Wellness Project
Groton – Groton Wellness and the Groton Community Foundation joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy. Worldwide, people celebrate their generosity by donating to worthy causes.
This year, #GivingTuesday takes place on December 1, 2015 and organizers hope to inspire people to donate to The Free Wellness Project. Founded in 2013, The Free Wellness Project offers free treatment one Saturday afternoon per month to those who are not able to pay for much-needed private healthcare. Many patients are from the Nashoba Valley area, have tried unsuccessfully to solve their health issues through conventional medical routes and come to us out of both frustration and pain.

The Free Wellness Project is currently raising $20,000 in funds to expand its free services to include biological dental evaluations and treatments. This expansion is not possible without additional funding. Their goal is to use the money raised to further establish The Free Wellness Project as a viable, sustainable program for the community.

According to Blackbaud and the Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, online giving has increased more than fourfold since 2012. The 92 Second Street Y (92Y), a cultural center in New York City, started #GivingTuesday in 2012. #GivingTuesday is the perfect follow-up to a day of giving thanks and is a way to get charities, businesses, families and communities to continue to celebrate with generosity and gratitude.
