We have offered Oral Sedation to our patients for several years now and the experience has received rave reviews. It has proven to work incredibly well to relax patients during dental work and minimize pain or sensitivity in the days following treatment.
How does it work?
Sometimes referred to as “comfortable” or “relaxation” dentistry, the purpose of oral sedation is to allow us to work more effectively by helping you become as comfortable as possible through the use of orally administered sedative medications.
Our dentists are highly trained, certified dentists and they employ a variety of protocols customized to your physiological/pharmacological needs. A number of oral medications have been developed specifically for these purposes. They have been subjected to rigorous research and testing, and have proved to be very safe and effective over decades of use.
During the entire time you are sedated in our dental treatment room, you are being monitored via a hospital-grade oximeter unit used to track your vital signs. NOTE: you are not put to sleep! The term “sleep dentistry” is inappropriate. Patients are never meant to sleep through appointments and should always be able to verbally/physically respond to cues from the doctor or team.
Is it right for you?
Oral sedation dentistry can benefit a wide range of patients, particularly people who have:
- High dental anxiety and fear
- A severe gag reflex
- Time constraints—those who need to get more dental treatment done in fewer visits
- Chronic or acute jaw soreness
- Physical limitations such as back and neck problems
- Difficulty getting numb
- Extensive treatment needs
- A desire to have dentistry done comfortably while fully relaxed
