Why patients fly past other offices to get here

Most of our traveling patients have already searched for a biological dentist closer to home, and some have already seen one. They come to Groton Wellness anyway. The reason is usually one of these three.

Training that exists in very few places. Dr. Nordin is the most experienced general dentist in the United States certified in Ghanaati Guided Open Wound Healing and the ARENA protocol, developed by Professor Shahram Ghanaati at Goethe University Frankfurt.

We can see what flat X-rays cannot. Our Carestream CS 9600 cone beam scanner, combined with Professor Ghanaati's Visiogenics 3D visualization methods, lets us examine old extraction sites, root-canaled teeth, and jawbone in three dimensions before we plan anything. A great deal of what brings patients here does not appear on a conventional X-ray.

Before you travel

Send us your recent imaging

Ask your current dental office for copies of any X-rays taken in the last twelve months, and a 3D cone beam scan (CBCT) if one exists.

If you have never had a 3D scan, we will help you find an office where you can get one and then send it to us. A CBCT shows the jawbone in three dimensions — flat X-rays cannot show us what is happening inside an old extraction site or under a root-canaled tooth. Tell us your city and we will identify imaging locations near you and send instructions for having the scan released to us. The scan takes under a minute and no referral is usually needed.

Set up a virtual consultation

Once we have your X-rays and CBCT, we schedule a virtual consultation to talk through your history, your symptoms, and what you are hoping to resolve. This is a conversation, not a commitment — it is where we find out whether traveling here makes sense for you at all.

We send your CBCT for 3D visualization

After the consultation, your CBCT is sent for advanced 3D visualization — the detailed analysis that guides every treatment plan. Choose the scope that fits your case:

One quadrant — $665. One quarter section of your mouth, for evaluation of 1–9 teeth and any bone areas where teeth have been previously removed.

Two quadrants — $1,330. Two quarter sections — for example, the whole upper jaw or the whole lower jaw, or one side of each.

Three quadrants — $1,995. Three quarter sections of your mouth, when concerns span most but not all of the mouth.

Full mouth — $2,226. All four quadrants — every tooth, every prior extraction site, and the full jawbone, upper and lower.

Wisdom teeth — $665. Visualization of your wisdom teeth for extraction planning.

Wisdom teeth areas — $1,330. The four areas at the back corners of your mouth where wisdom teeth used to be, examined for Covered Socket Residuum (CSR - Cavitation) — a common place for incomplete healing.

Once the visualization report is in, we set up a 30-minute Zoom call with Dr. Nordin to walk through what it shows.

A phone call is available upon request, but we prefer Zoom — it lets Dr. Nordin share the images with you on screen.

Receive a preliminary written plan, sequence, and estimate

You receive a preliminary treatment plan laid out day by day, an estimate of fees, and the number of days to allow. Next step, make your travel arrangements.

If you decide to move forward with treatment, a comprehensive exam is required on arrival, and the preliminary plan may be adjusted based on Dr. Nordin's findings at that appointment.

While you are here

The spa. Recovery days do not have to be spent in a hotel room. Many visiting patients use our therapeutic spa to aid their healing — red light therapy bed sessions, infrared sauna, therapeutic baths, massage therapy, facials, and colonics, booked alongside their dental appointments.

The Farm to Table Café. Our café is on site, serving clean, whole-food meals made from scratch, with soft, nutrient-dense options chosen specifically for post-operative patients — the kind of food that is easy to manage with a healing surgical site and that gives your body what it needs to repair.

Comfort options

Longer appointments can be done under oral conscious sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia. We will discuss which is appropriate for you during your consultation, and what it means for your recovery time and your travel plans.

A typical five-day visit

How the days are usually sequenced

This is just a sample of how a visit can look — of course, it depends on each person, and your own schedule is built around your plan.

Arrival

Travel and settle in. Fly into Boston Logan, roughly an hour from the office, or Manchester, NH. Rest — nothing clinical happens today.

Day 1

Examination and imaging. Comprehensive exam, on-site 3D imaging, and a final review of the plan together before anything begins.

Day 2

Treatment day. The longest appointment of the visit — surgical work and restorative work are typically completed on the same day, for the whole mouth.

Day 3

Post-op check and spa recovery. A post-operative check, then recovery treatments at the spa — red light therapy, a soothing bath, and other therapies that support healing.

Day 4

Spa treatments and nourishment. More recovery time at the spa, with healing meals from the Farm to Table Café.

Day 5

Final post-operative check and departure. We confirm you are healing well and release you to travel, with home-care instructions in writing.

Where to stay

The Groton Inn

We work with The Groton Inn, minutes from our office in the center of town, so that your stay is one less thing to arrange. Boutique-style rooms, breakfast included, and a front porch with rocking chairs overlooking Gibbet Hill.

Once your treatment plan is settled and your dates are reserved, we send you a booking link with a discounted rate held for Groton Wellness patients. Please wait for that link rather than booking directly — the rate is only available through it.

Other nearby options

Courtyard by Marriott Boston Littleton — about 15 minutes away, with an on-site bistro for breakfast and dinner.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Devens Common Center — about 15 minutes away in Devens; all-suite rooms with extra space.

Getting here

Boston Logan (BOS) — about one hour by car.
Manchester, NH (MHT) — about forty-five minutes.

A car is the simplest way to get between your lodging and the office. Rideshare service in Groton is limited, so please plan ahead if you would rather not drive after a long appointment.

Bring someone with you if you can. For surgical days, a companion who can drive is strongly recommended.

Return travel booked for at least one full day after your last treatment day

If your plan includes crowns, expect a minimum of two visits — final crowns are usually installed on a return visit once the lab has made them. In some cases, work done early in the week can allow same-week delivery, arranged with the lab in advance.

Payment arranged to reserve your appointments. Surgical appointments are reserved with payment in full. Restorative appointments are reserved with 50% of the treatment scheduled for that week, with the balance due during your visit.

Serum biocompatibility testing through BioComp Laboratories completed ahead of time, if requested — necessary for only sensitive people

If you need to change your dates

Because your appointments hold time that cannot be filled at short notice, we ask for advance notice to cancel or reschedule.

Surgical appointments — two weeks' notice. Canceling or rescheduling inside that window carries a fee of 50% of the treatment reserved.

Restorative appointments longer than two hours — one week's notice. Inside that window, the fee is 50% of the total of all appointments scheduled for that week.

Life happens, and we would rather hear from you early than not at all — call us as soon as you know. For this reason we also suggest booking changeable airfare and confirming your lodging cancellation terms when you reserve.

Fees, insurance, and after you go home

What it costs

You receive a written estimate before you travel. Keep in mind it is based on your imaging — there may be some changes once Dr. Nordin examines your mouth clinically at the comprehensive exam. Travel and lodging are arranged and paid for by you directly.

We are out of network with all insurance plans, and treatment is paid out of pocket. We will prepare and submit claims on your behalf as a courtesy, but any reimbursement comes from your insurer directly to you. Please call your plan before you travel and ask what out-of-network dental benefits you have, what your annual maximum is, and what documentation they require. Knowing those answers in advance is your responsibility, and it prevents an unwelcome surprise later.

Payment plans through Cherry or CareCredit. If you would rather spread the cost over time, we offer financing through Cherry — applying takes a few minutes and uses a soft credit check, which does not affect your credit score; you will see your approval amount and the plan options available to you before you commit to anything. We also accept CareCredit, a healthcare credit card that can be used for your dental treatment. Ask our team which option fits your situation best.

Follow-up from a distance

Your post-operative appointment is always scheduled during the same week as your surgery, before you fly home — this is why we ask you to book return travel for at least a full day after your last treatment day.

Every surgical patient goes home with Dr. Nordin's personal phone number. If a concern comes up once you are back — at any hour, on any day — you reach her directly. You are not calling a service or waiting for a callback.

If you need to be seen in person once you are home, we will refer you to a dentist in your area who can provide post-operative care, and with your permission we will send them your records so nothing has to be repeated.
